What Are Fall River City Public Records?

Fall River City public records are documents generated or retained by the city concerning the city government’s business and operations within the jurisdiction. These documents are available in any form, including handwritten, filmed, typed, photographed, or taped records that the public body maintains and disseminates in compliance with the Public Records Law.

As specified by this law, some documents like sex offender information, crime statistics, non-confidential court files are publicly available, while others have restricted access due to the nature of the information contained. Examples of records with exempted disclosure include:

  • Privilege between attorney-client, doctor-patient, and so on
  • Medical records
  • Certain personal records
  • Confidential law enforcement records
  • Trade secrets, commercial information, and financial data
  • Autopsy reports
  • Records on juvenile delinquency cases
  • Materials on ongoing prosecutions and investigations
  • Sexual assaults, rape, and domestic violence reports
  • Personal information that may constitute an unwarranted invasion of privacy
  • Other information specifically exempted from disclosure by statute

These exempted documents or information may only be available to authorized parties. In some cases, this may include the record subject, affected parties, persons with a court order for disclosure, and authorized government/private agencies. It is possible to request a copy of a document with redacted private information. Otherwise, denied requesters may seek relief by appealing the decision.

Public city records may also be accessible from third-party websites. Record seekers may either opt to use these non-governmental platforms to search for a specific record or multiple city records. However, users will need to provide enough information to assist with the search such as:

  • The address of the requestor
  • A case number or file number (if known)
  • The location of the document or person involved
  • The name of the subject involved in the record (not juvenile)
  • The last known or current address of the registrant

Third-party sites are not sponsored by government agencies. Because of this, record availability and results may vary.
